CMHA Central Region remains committed to working with community partners to better understand and find solutions to homelessness in Portage la Prairie.
In partnership with other CMHA branches across the province, CMHA Central Region will be hosting a community forum to discuss the issue of homelessness, particularly in the context of youth aged 16 to 30. This forum will solicit input from stakeholders to better understand the services youth need to prevent homelessness in the first place.
As a starting point, attendees will be given an overview of an existing model of services for youth called Building Futures. In its present state, this program works with youth transitioning out of the care of Child and Family Services. Consideration will be given to whether all or parts of this program could benefit youth in Portage la Prairie.
CMHA Central Region is seeking representatives from organizations that interact directly or indirectly with youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to participate in the forum.
