Central Station Community Centre FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Winkler, January 2, 2020 – Central Station Community Centre is pleased to announce that Thrive Learning Centre (Winkler Campus) will begin a new semester in January.
“We are so grateful for the support from the Falk Fehr Foundation towards mental health education in Winkler,” said Bev Wiebe, Executive Director of Central Station Community Centre. “We are passionate about providing supports to families and individuals in our community that are accessible for all and promote hope and overall wellness.”
Justin Falk from the Falk Fehr Foundation shares, “We love hearing about the positive impact Central Station has been making in the community and are excited to have a hand in contributing to the THRIVE program. We believe mental wellness is an area that deserves increased attention with respect to funding, programming and awareness, and we cannot say enough good things about these programs and support systems Central Station is providing to the city of Winkler and surrounding area.”
Central Station will use the funding to partner with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Central Region to offer a wide array of courses and educational resources for mental health service users, their families, friends and members of the community. Courses will be run on Mondays and Wednesdays at Central Station Community Centre. The curriculum focuses on promoting mental health literacy, self-exploration and skill development, and enables people to sign up for courses that interest them and receive recognition for completing the course.
Based on a Recovery College model, Thrive Learning Centre operates on the belief that everyone can experience positive mental health and live well within supportive communities.
