WHAT IS OSI-CAN MANITOBA?
Operational Stress Injury Canada (OSI-CAN) in Manitoba is a community based, peer facilitator led support program for veterans, military service members, and community first responders and safety personnel experiencing the effects of work-related stress and traumatic events. This includes but is not limited to professions such as dispatchers, paramedics, nurses, police officers, correctional officers, active and veteran military personnel, etc.
Peers meet weekly in a safe and confidential environment that is free of judgment and agenda. No diagnosis or referral is required to attend.

WHAT IS AN OPERATIONAL STRESS INJURY?
Operational Stress Injury (OSI) is often used as a non-medical term that is synonymous with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but specific to traumatic events experienced in the line of duty, or while performing work-related tasks.
The term Operational Stress Injury is becoming more widely adopted, as it removes the stigma of having “disorder” applied to an individual.

Virtual Meetings Available!
Meetings are held virtually every Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM over Zoom. The first hour is intentional peer support where there is an educational component to it dedicated to post traumatic growth. The second hour is peer social support where topics under mental health are discussed but not led by anyone. This is a time where you can talk freely to other members to ask about resources, gain encouragement and to just talk to people that ‘get it’.
To access meetings, please get in touch with the Manitoba Provincial Coordinator, Pattie Atwell at the email address below or through Osi-Can Manitoba | Support Group (osicanmb.ca)
In person meetings will resume once it is safe again to hold group gatherings. We know this is the preferred option, and important for us to connect with each other in the same space once again. For up-to-date listings of in person meetings and locations, please visit the OSI-CAN Manitoba website.
